David Hicks
Drummer
David was born in 1952 into a family of drummers. He grew up with two older brothers as well as uncles that were drummers and tap dancers. With at least one set of drums around the house always, it was only natural for David to start playing at an early age. David’s brothers Irvene and Tommy played with such notable groups as the Swigging Medallions, the Original Pieces of Eight, the Tassels and Gene Barbour and the Cavaliers. After high school David played weekends as he attended NC State. In 1976 he joined the Band of Oz and has been with the group ever since. He currently handles booking the group through Different Drummer Inc. The agency was started by David’s brother Irvene in the late 60s and serves as agent and management for the Band of Oz.

David is an all around good guy & musician…but if you want to chit-chat with him you better be quick and to the point cause he is busy as hell all the time.Roll with it David !!!!

David,
From one drummer to another. Thanks to you and all the guys for laying it down for us in Asheboro on 9-6-10 at bicentennial park. You guys did a great job as always.
David I so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. May she rest in peace. I know that she is in a better place.
Hi David – I used to baby sit for you and your siblings. My mother, Robanna Dickson left Garner in 1987. I kept up with your mother and other people through Catherine Jones. Since Catherine died, I have lost contact with many Garner people. I just heard about your mother passing. She was a very nice lady.
I live in Winston Salem now. Many years ago, we went to hear your group here. Hope you and your siblings are doing well.
David, kudos just keep coming in on the FABULOUS job the band did on my daughter’s wedding June 11. THE BAND OF OZ is absolutely the best. THANK YOU
Thanks for a great job at our annual July dance during the holiday weekend.
We had a great turn out, almost 700 people danced the night away at Colerain Beach!! See ya next year!!
Hi David, My friends are still talking about your great performance for my daughter’s wedding June 11th. I am traveling south to Pinehurst for New Years. I’m looking forward to a great evening with the BOZ. Warm Regards, Gary Palank
